I went riding with a new cycling buddy named Cindy. It turns out that Cindy is a blog reader. This is a delightful story…so please keep reading!
Cindy is brand new to triathlon this year and is coached by Stacey Richardson. Cindy is already very good at the sport of triathlon, and even snatched a podium spot in her second race: “White Lake Sprint.” Stacey introduced me to Cindy as a possible training partner. So, Cindy and I planned a bike/run brick workout.
Since it was a brick workout, I decided to wear my blue tri top – the same one I am wearing in the photo in the right sidebar of this blog. I rarely wear that top because it is very old and stained from years of lake swimming. I have no idea why I chose that top for my brick workout. Perhaps it was a bit of serendipity, as it helped Cindy to recognize me!
Cindy and I met at the Maple View Farms ice cream store on Dairyland road. We chatted for about 10 minutes, and then set out our running gear near the bike racks on the side of the building. As we mounted our bikes, Cindy looked down at my tri top. Then she looked up at me and, as if a light bulb went off inside her head, she asked, “Do you have a blog?”
I replied “Yes, I do have a blog”.
Then Cindy’s eyes grew wide with astonishment as she explained how she and her friend, Jenny, trained for White Lake using my White Lake race report as a guide. She called me the “mystery White Lake blogger” and said she had wondered if she’d ever run into me since we both live in Chapel Hill.
Cindy thinks I am famous, but really I am just a regular person like anybody else, sitting here at my keyboard telling my tale. It’s always so much fun to meet bloggy peeps. And it always makes me happy to know that my words help to inspire other regular folks to follow their triathlon dreams. Remember – if I can do this, you can too!
Cindy is doing the Sandman Triathlon at Virginia Beach next week. If you see her, say “Hi”. 🙂
PS: Cindy is going to teach me how to mount and dismount the bike while leaving my shoes clipped in. That is something I have not been able to do yet! She is a pro at that skill.

Carol, you ARE famous!!! You might not know it... but all around the state and perhaps the East Coast are people looking at your name in your age group and saying, " oh man! that speedy Carol is signed up for my race..." and they all know YOUR name because it is on top so often lately!! Well, perhaps I can follow in your footsteps... many thousands of miles down the road :) Thanks for your GREAT motivation both in blog and in person!!
