I had a great 4.5 mile tempo run today. I ran it in under 42 minutes…a time I haven’t gotten since last year. Finally – I’m back to where I was last season in my running.
During the run, I was keeping a steady pace, controlling my breathing, staying focused to hold the pace, keeping good posture, steady eddie up the hills, picking up the pace after the hills, imagining that I had to keep up that pace for 2+ hours. I felt like I could do it. I listened to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” the whole time.
Here’s what else I’m feeling…
- stir crazy due to reduced training
- feeling mostly ready for this race
- lots of aches and pains (you’d think those would go away with less workouts!)
- A little worried about the bike – not sure if I can repeat my fast bike split of 3:04 last year
- stressed about making my goal.
- anticipation: wanting to just get on with the race
- very hungry lately. Grrr!
You better – lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go (go)
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime

You better,
You can do anything you set your mind to, man… Eminem
I listen to the same song on my iPod! I love the words, the rhythm, and the message… Thanks so much for continuing to share your blog. My husband has been reading your blog over my shoulder lately (I think it was your blog about your fall that caught his attention) – you are such a good author! Good luck!!!!!!!!!
