Last time I wrote about how I am using Hal Higdon’s 10k training plan to prepare for the 5 mile Cleveland Turkey Trot race. I was going to follow the Hal Higdon 10k plan exactly, even though it’s an awful lot of running – nearly every day! I don’t usually run every day, and Monday is usually my day off, but I figured “what the heck”.
I started out on a 3 mile run today. Immediately, I felt an odd click in my left leg – sort of where the thigh bone connects into my groin. I kept running, in the spirit of HTFU*. It didn’t hurt…it just felt weird, and threw my stride off. After four minutes of running, it hadn’t worked itself out, so I decided an ‘odd click’ is a good reason to stop.
Today will be a day off for me. Every once in a while I try to skip my day off, and then am reminded how important it is. I will do lots of stretching today.
* HTFU = Harden the F*** Up. There’s a hilarious Youtube video about this expression. It’s extremely inappropriate, so click on the pain diagram below below at your own risk!!
PS: this pain diagram shows where I felt that clicking…haha, these are fun to make!
I’m at that point in my life now where I also tend to run alternate days. Too much running back to back hurts my body. I blame it on all the road racing as a youth!!! I used to be a firm believer of ‘HTFU’, being ex-military and all, but these days I have to listen to my body otherwise I’m out of action for a while…and I’m only 34 ;-(
A friend of mine used HTFU to get through CDA IM this year. They chalked it on the hills, bought bracelets, it’s what kept them going. The video is hilarious, I sent it to him.
Checkout my blog (www.familyfanclub.net and http://www.familyfanclub.blogspot.com) and let me know what you think. Maybe right a post and/or tell a friend?
Thank you for my birthday card. That little race was hysterical. Scott and I both got a kick out of it.
I agree that that an odd click is enough reason to call it a day.
I have had similar “Clicking” albeit in the front area of my hip…it wasn’t good. I think in general it’s not a good idea to mess with your hips or knees…you might want to get that checked out! Good luck.
I love the “HTFU” video/motto. Whenever I whine, hubby yells it at me.
then I usually punch him in the arm. LOL!
Yes take the day off–rest is important.
