Cycling Story: “Helpful Driver”

I was cycling the other day. I had printed out a cue sheet of a new route I wanted to try and stuck it in my back pocket. There was a turn I wasn’t sure about, so I stopped on the side of the road and checked my cue sheet.

As I was looking at my cue sheet, a woman in a minivan stopped and asked if I needed some water. I gave her the thumbs up and said, “no thanks”. Then she asked if I needed any help finding my way. I said, “no thanks, I’m good”. She persisted and asked me where I was going. I replied “I’m just enjoying the nice weather on my bike”. By now the woman was annoying me, tho I realized she was just trying to be helpful, so I tried not to show it. She pointed up the street and said “That way leads to downtown Carrboro”; and then she pointed left and said, “That way goes down country roads”. I replied “I’ll take the country roads, thanks!” After she drove off, I finished checking my cue sheet and verified that left was indeed the way I wanted to go…and I rode off.

I’ll take her any day over the idiotic truck driver that ran me off the road last week!
