I want to thank, Denise, a blog reader who emailed me with concern that I had not posted in a long time. That really touched me to know that someone out there in bloggy land missed my musings. So, thank you, Denise!
If you,ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I started working full time shortly after completing my Ironman race a year ago. Well, working full time and trying to fit training in is very hard. My job was stressful and the hours were not flexible, and I gained ten pounds. I had a pretty good season last year, but my speed was not where it was in my “Ironman days”. And it was nowhere near where I wanted it to be.
I found a brand new job that I started this week – which I am completely loving! It is a much better fit with my web skills. Right now I am in training so it’s not stressful. Once I ramp up to speed, I think it will be long hours and some stress, but I will be doing really cool stuff and working with really cool people for a really cool company. I think the cool factor will negate the stress factor.
Still, I am struggling with trying to lose a few pounds and trying to fit in training with a super busy life. It doesn’t matter how much you like your job, it still eats up your training hours. And I do miss my “part time work at home” lifestyle where I could go out and ride my bike for three hours on a Thursday afternoon.
I think I have gained another five pounds this month and have hardly worked out at all. I need to get out of this couch potato funk, and QUICK. Help!

Yeah, Carol. Welcome back!!! :) I have resurrected my diet journal too and my new job is allowing me to go in an hour later too. So early morning workouts have helped this past week. Now just need to keep it going. I also have the added obstacle of ice, snow, and subfreezing temps! But it could be worse, my boss just got deployed to Antartica for 6 weeks! Brrrrr! :)
Sign up for a race? or I have one, how about buy a new piece of tri/run/bike equipment/clothing? - pretty much the secret to my motivation. I also found that a week detox gets me out of the funk, sheds a couple pounds and resets you for moving forward!!
Hi Carol,
I had been missing your blog posts, too! Congrats on the new job! Try not to be too hard on yourself and remember life is a journey. You are a huge inspiration to so many of us out here whether you are ten pounds heavier or not! It's a big accomplishment for me just to finish a sprint triathlon so I've been following you with a sense of awe. Keep your chin up and enjoy the ride!

Hey Carol - I feel your pain! How about two times around the Duke Forest loop this Sunday? I can do it at 12:00 or 12:30. Not looking for speed - just looking to log some miles!
