Remember that movie I, Robot? I liked it, and I like Will Smith alot, too.
I like listening to Techno music on my mp3 player while riding my bike. The mechanical sounding beat really gets me into a good spinning groove. Especially when I am doing a hard bike workout.
I biked today for 25 miles at 17.8 mph, hilly route. On my new bike. Avg heart rate 143. That’s a great pace for a training ride, especially since I got stuck in stop-n-go traffic on UNC campus today, and hit lots of traffic lights in downtown Carborro.
I selected Benny Bennassi’s Hypnotica album for my ride. While riding, I started thinking how I like to be “one with my bike” – almost as if I am a part of the machine. I got into a really great groove, thinking this way, and listening to the Techno beat. I feel one with my new bike already. I wonder how it will feel to ride my old bike again, which is still in the shop.
Here’s a Youtube Video for you to enjoy: Benny Bennassi, Satisfaction from the Hypnotica CD. Gosh, just watching this video makes me want to go out for another ride!

Hi Gina,
Thank you for your kind words. I’m sure it’s a very bad idea to wear headphones while riding or running. I choose to do it anyway, because it’s so enjoyable. What I do to make it as safe as possible, is only wear one headphone, and keep the volume pretty low. I can still hear cars and other stuff going on, so I feel safe. Keep in mind that I am old (tho I feel young) and have lived a full life, so if I die while riding my bike, I would die very happy and complete. If you are young, your choices may be different.
Happy training! carol
Hi there. I just came upon your blog today and want to thank you! You are very inspiring to say the least! I was curious about you listening to music while riding. I have done it a few times but get nervous about not being able to hear everything around me. Has that been a problem for you?
