Interactive Road ID Product Review

Once again the good folks at OutsidePR have sent wondeful gifts my way. This time they sent me a coupon code good for the purchase of one Road ID. They also sent me a box of Ryders Eyewear and some Gu.

Now, lets get to the review of the Road ID:  I actually had purchased a Road ID five years ago, when I first started running. I used it for a long time, attaching it to my running shoes.  I liked it alot.   Trouble is, I put my husband’s cell phone number on it. That was like 3 cell phone numbers ago, so I stopped using it.

When I went to order a new one last week, I saw that they now have something called an “interactive road id.” The interactive road id allows you to set up a profile online that emergency crews can log or call to get your vital information. I thought that sounded like a very cool idea, so that’s what I ordered.   A few days later, it arrived in the mail…

Then I logged into the Interactive Road ID website, MyRoadID.com, to create my profile.   It allows you to input contact details of your family, which can be changed at a later date if needed.    It also lets you input all sorts of vital medical information.  Here is a screen shot (with my data blurred out for security purposes):

I was extremely impressed.   In fact, now I am thinking I want to buy another road id for cycling.   I had chosen the shoe model thinking I only needed it for running.   After all, I carry my cell phone with me on my bike rides, and that has emergency contact information in it.  But, what if I whack myself in the head again?   Only what if it’s much worse, and they can’t get hold of my family.   The Interactive road id would get them all the information they need to proceed with medical treatment. 

Here’s  a picture of the Road ID on my running shoes.  I blurred out the Interactive Road ID number using photoshop again.   I don’t want just anyone to be able to view my medical information.   The folks at Road ID have thought of this as well.  You can view a log of accesses to your profile, and you can report your id as lost or stolen (and also report that it was found.).    Like I said, I am very impressed.
