Well, now I have foot and ankle pain. I’m pretty sure that it’s a result of running with an injured knee. I was altering my stride to protect the sore knee and that caused an overuse injury my foot. In this case, pain was not a gift.
Usually, pain ends up being a gift in that it helps me improve my running, biking or swimming technique. It makes sense…most of my pains are overuse injuries. Using that kind of pain helps me correct my running/biking/swimming form, because it’s incorrect form in the first place that is causing one part of my body to get overused. What I mean by “using the pain” is that while I’m working out, I focus on the part of my body that experiences pain, and try and alter my form to reduce the pain. It really works.
It didn’t work in this case, because the pain was from an impact injury to my knee. I should have been smart and just stopped running for a while to allow the knee to heal!
The pain isn’t bad enough to go see a doctor. Google tells me that the pain is my Peroneal tendon. I’ve stopped running for now to let it rest. I really miss running. It’s the easiest and quickest way to get in my much needed endorphins. (that’s why I didn’t stop running when I fell and banged up my knee).
I continue to have difficulty getting my workouts in and being stressed about my teaching job, which is causing me to eat from stress and gain weight. All the yummy holiday food is not helping, either. Life is hard. I know, I shouldn’t complain, because my life is really easy compared to 99% of people in this world. But, hell, this is my blog, and I enjoy complaining to it.? And…complaining to my blog keeps me from complaining to my friends and family – blogging is very theraputic!

Hello,
I put in a search for "peroneal tendon" as I am also having lateral foot pains just below my ankle. I am currently training for a half-marathon and I think it is from overuse (though I havent consulted a doctor yet. How long did your injury take to overcome and completely heal?
Thanks. Your feedback would be much appreciated. = : )
