I ordered the P90X DVD set … I figured that was about a couple months worth of gym membership. And you can do the P90X system at home, with some dumbells, a chin/pull up bar, and some bands. I don’t yet have bands, but I will pick some up at Target soon. My idea of doing P90X is to stay in great shape even though I don’t have the time to workout like I used to. I am not expecting to maintain my same fitness from a triathlon racing standpoint. I mostly just don’t want to go back to couch potato land!
Anyway, the first thing I did was open the box and start tweeting:
- P90x arrived today. Where’s the quick start guide? ah, Phase 1 starts on page 23. Day 1: Chest & Back + Ab rip. Going to put DVD in to check it out
- Check out the P90X disclaimer! Bwahahahaha, you’re talking to a f***ing ironman!
- I like the music, like Tony Horton, seems cool. browsing some just to see what it is. I thought “Decline Pushups” was a link you could click to skip them. haha!
- tomorrow morning i will wake up early and do P90X Chest & Back. Will have to “Decline” any parts with bands since I don’t have them yet.
If you are looking to buy bands I would recomend against the target/wallmart type. If you Have a Gym Source store near you check them out. Go in clothes you can work out in, play on all the machines and talk to the guys. It’s always fun there. Anyway, they will probably give you a discount off retail on the bands and they will be better and cheaper than the “golds gym” type stuff. Yes, I learned this the hard way. They usually have 5 or 6 different weights of bands are run (after discount) between $9-$12. I had 3 of the Walmart bands together when I started with Power 90 (I couldn’t do P90X to start with) and replace them with one of the red bands from Gym Source and it was much better. If you don’t have one of these stores nearby call around other gym supply companies but avoid the big box stores if you can. While you are there check out the PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells if you don’t already have a set of dumbbells, make for fast changeovers between exercises. I much prefer dumbbells to bands now that I’ve progressed on to P90X.
Keep Pushing Play!
Nice to see an Ironman doing P90X. I am sure you will love the variety of workouts. You won’t need your dumbbells until day 3. If you do not have any check craigslist. I found a pretty good deal there.
Can’t wait to read your first report!
