I raced in the NCTS Championship Invitational Race today at Beaverdam State Park / Falls Lake. What a great venue for a tri event. I enjoyed the entire race.
I am way too tired to post much right now. I took my daughters to the state fair right after the race, AND I’m doing a mini triathlon tomorrow with my daughter so have to get up at the crack of dawn.
This race was an equalizer race. All females started off in one wave at 8am, and then all males started off 14 minutes later. That allowed the top males and females to compete head on at the end of the race.
It was really neat going off in the first wave… tho I almost got started late because I’m not used to having to be ready exactly at 8am. The first elite male passed me at mile 10 of the bike. A couple more elites passed me a few minutes later. Then at mile 15, tons of males were passing me. I have to admit I enjoyed the view 😉
Here are my official race results:
Swim 1500m: 21:35 (I’m not really that fast – they measured the course short!)
T1: 3:41
Bike 40k: 1:23:36
T2: 2:04
Run 10k: 55:15
Overall: 2:46:09
I came in 4th out of 6 in my age group. Considering the depth of field in this race, I was merely happy not to be last.
I had a great 2006 tri season.

I was riding my bike Saturday morning, and I was thinking about the triathlon that was going on. I was dry and dressed for it, but I was still uncomfortably cold. It must have been a tough day to get out of the water and onto a bike.
That was a good time--you keep getting faster.
