Hey, guess what? I know the reaction time for Poison Ivy rash to develop.
My left knee started itching a little bit last night. I woke up at 6 am this morning with a rash. I was exposed to the poison ivy plant at the start of the run course at Rev 3 Tri race (when I ducked into the woods for a pee)…so, let’s say that was around noon on Sunday. Noon on Sunday to 6 am on Tuesday is about 42 hours.
Given how much I was exposed, I am amazed all I have is a little rash on the left knee. The stuff was all over the place when I ran into the woods for a potty break during the race. My impression – in the heat of the moment – was that primarily my right leg was touching the leaves. I scrubbed that leg extra hard with the Dawn Dish soap Sunday night. Maybe I just didn’t wash as thoroughly on the left side??
I will keep you posted if the rash spreads or gets any worse. So far, it’s bearable! So far, I still think washing with Dawn helps after exposure to the stuff.
Update Wednesday (day 3): Rash looks worse, but has not spread beyond the left knee. Itches like crazy. Still not bad considering my exposure level!
Update Friday (day 5): Insane itching begins. Still limited to small patch on left knee. Since it’s a small area, it’s bearable.
Update Sunday (day 7): Icky oozing phase begins.

Thanks for posting info on the reaction time. Elena decided to pick some poison ivy in our yard yesterday! Thank goodness I saw her right away and I ran in the house and started scrubbing her with soap and water. So far so good and since it has been 36 hours we may be in the clear.
Techu is great stuff to wash the oil off after exposure. Oddly enough, I have poison ivy rash on my left knee, too!
