A marketing company, OutsidePR, sent me a Sugoi Velocity Tri Suit to demo. I did a video blog about it, talking about the features of the suit, and giving it a test swim in Jordan Lake.
According to a fellow twitterer:
Sugoi .. means “cool!”or “awesome” in japanese so… su (like the name sue) go ( like lets go!) i (like the letter E).
Note: This is not the correct way to pronounce Sugoi. According to the representative on the Sugoi Facebook page, it is “Sue-Goy or Suh-goy 🙂”
Full Verision, 6 minutes. (Link to shorter version of video at end of this post.)

Bullet Points:
- Very soft seam in arms and neckline. No chaffing during the swim.
- Zipper front. Zipps snugly to neckline. Kept water out, but did not feel constricting along neck.
- Soft lightweight fabric similar to running shorts, but more stretchy. Hugged body like second skin. Dries quickly.
- No built in bra. Not a big deal, just wore a sports bra underneath.
- True to size. The women’s medium fit me perfectly, and that’s my usual size.
- Two pockets in back to stowe Gel pouches. I put two Gu’s in there. They were still there after swimming for 1 hour!
- Only downside was that the white fabric in the back picked up a dinginess due to the silt from lake swimming. This did wash out nicely, and was less noticable once the fabric dried.

Short Version, 1 minute, for those of you with a life. LOL!
I’m going to be a corrective jerk, I can’t help myself. I’ve been to Japan a couple times, it’s pronounced “sue-goy”, no extra e on the end. Great review! I wish it was all black, the white parts aren’t very flattering to anyone, kind of highlights the hips and thighs, I hate when sports clothing does that!
I loved it in the swim. I wore it once on a bike run brick, but was in a very bad PMS mood, so didn’t want that to reflect my review. It actually felt hot to me on the bike, but wanted to test it again when I was feeling better. I was hoping to get out and test it again, but haven’t gotten a chance. Now I am having more PMS – ACK! I read on Steve in a Speedo’s blog that he got one too and is testing it this weekend. So, maybe he has some good thoughts before I do.
Regarding one piece or two. I like a two piece better for quicker bathroom breaks! I might use this in a sprint or olympic distance, where peeing mid-race is not an issue. Anything longer, definitely need a two piece suit!

Thanks for sharing! I feel like I need to get one. 😉 Nice job! Please post how you feel when you ride and run. Thanks again.
Great review!! Thanks for sharing. I was interested in getting this suit but wasn’t sure if it would be worthwhile to get a one-piece. Do you have a preference for one piece vs two piece in a tri?
