I did the Pinehurst olympic distance race today. I met my goal of having fun and beating last year’s bike split. I even beat last year’s overall time, but I’m not sure by how much until they post the official race results. The painful blisters (see pic below) on my feet made me forget to stop my watch at the end of the race. When I remembered a minute or so later, it said 2:50.
I’m too tired to post a race report. But wanted to post this picture. I skipped the socks today to save time in T1. Ouch – definitely not worth it! (I had practiced this on a 4.5 mile training run and was fine!) During this race, however, I was in excruciating pain from about mile 4 and onward.? When I finally crossed the finish line, all I could think about was taking off my shoes. I knew it was bad when I looked down and saw blood had soaked through my running shoes. As soon as I got the shoes off, the pain was bearable until I got home and took a shower…then it stung like crazy. Sprint distance is the only race I’ll skip socks from now on!
Here are my splits according to my stopwatch:
Swim: 0:30:06
T1 & Bike: 1:16:11 (apparently, I forgot to hit the lap button)
T2: 1:09:59
Run: 1:03:24
Overall: 2:50:54
My bike split is awesome, especially considering that it includes T1, where I had to peel off my wetsuit! My run time really sucks. I’m glad I didn’t look at my time during the run…I would have gotten myself down again with negative thoughts! I put in a good solid effort during the whole run. It was really hard work. I’m dying to find out how long I waited before hitting the stop button!
OUCHIE!!
That brings back painful memories. Good job on the race though.

ouch is right! that foot looks like hell. glad you got back on the horse so to speak and that you enjoyed it. having fun and challenging yourself are both important….
tomorrow is my first du. i am a terrible runner still but figure there is no better way to improve than to be smoked in a race. temps here in michigan are supposed to be in the low 90s…yikes. i think there will be blisters and chafing for me too! keep up the training and the fun.
