Damn….last Tueday, I played in a parents versus kids soccer game against my daughters team. I thought I was in such good shape with all my triathlon training….but I was wrong!
I played hard for about 20 minutes, diving after the ball, and generally acting like a maniac. Then my thighs felt like hell, so I eased up. Soccer is hard on the leg muscles!
I went running the next day, Wednesday. Usually, if I have a little bit of soreness, it goes away as soon as I start running. NOT this time. My thighs hurt for 2 miles, so I stopped running.
I went swimming on Thursday, and even that hurt my legs. I went on an easy bike ride on Friday. I was okay on that.
Since I was travelling, I took the next 4 days off my training. I didn’t stretch at all during that time. I can’t stand not being able to work out!
I went for a run on Monday (day 6 after the soccer game), and felt okay, but stretching felt really really tight on my thighs. I wonder if you are supposed to still stretch when you are taking time off???
The next day (day 7 after the soccer game) I went out for an intense hilly bike ride. My thighs hurt after that, but I still felt okay overall. Then, later that evening, I was kneeling down on the floor to clean up a mess, and when I stood up, I felt an intense pain in my left thigh, and I couldn’t even walk or bend my knee. I put ice on it and a bandage, and it feels a little better this morning, but I am trying not to use that leg at all.
I wonder how long this will set me back 🙁
Damn Soccer Game!
what u need to do is stretch before and after the game trust me it helps and either cold cold water or hott water will help depends witch feels better for me hot water looses my legs/theigh up witch feel bad at the moment but feels better in 2 days and the cold water helps just then so try. and advil will help
I think it will help you mostly with running, because your joints must already be really strong from all that soccer! It took me about a year to be able to run without joint pain (knees, ankles, and hips). I had to build my running volume very slowly.
I think biking comes fairly easily for most people, because everyone rides a bike as a kid. Swimming is generally the hardest to master because it is ALL about technique.
Good luck! Carol
I’m going to start training for triathlons, I thought its never too late. Ive been playing soccer all my life, do u think that’s a good advantage in cycling?
oh and watch out I had that kind of injury before, takes about a week to fully recover, well from exp.
