I’ve been simply ravenous lately. I figure that I am exercising so much with my tri training, that I simply need more food.
When I was jogging at an easy pace for 20-30 minutes every other day, 1200-1400 calories per day was just right for losing 1 pound a week. Now I am exercising 1+ hours almost every day; 1200-1400 calories just leaves me way too hungry. I am still only losing 1 pound a week, but I think I am putting on a lot of muscle and losing fat, because my clothes are getting too big.
I want to be careful not to use the excuse that I am exercising a lot, and tell myself that I deserve to pig out, so…
Here’s what I decided to do: I’ll figure out how many calories I am burning through exercise by using this site: Calories Per Hour http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html
Then, I’ll add half of that number to my 1200-1400 per day normal intake. So, if I swim for an hour, that’s burning 600 calories. So, I’ll eat an extra 300 calories that day. Hopefully, that strategy will allow me to keep losing 1 pound a week, yet not feel so hungry. I don’t mind being a little hungry to lose weight. In fact, I prefer that feeling over feeling bloated from pigging out on sugary carbs (like I used to do all the time!) But being ravenous just makes me think about food all the time, and that can’t be good!
