My workout plan today called for a 1:15 S5 bike ride. S5 means to ride on a mostly flat course and spin at 90 or better the entire ride. There’s not much flat land around here, and we had thunderstorms today. I couldn’t bear the thought of riding on the trainer for 1:15! So, what I decided to do was do a Spinnervals workout, and then follow that with an S5 ride on the trainer, to get in my total req’d time.
I chose “Suffer-o-rama”. That lasted 55 minutes. My legs were pretty much dead after that. Spinnervals workouts are so hard, and Coach Troy is such a great motivator, that I don’t get bored at all.
Then I rode for 20 more minutes using Small Chain ring/15 ratio. I had trouble keeping up a cadence of 90 with dead legs; and I fought boredom – watching the clock the whole time.
I think it was a great workout idea for two reasons:
- physical: to keep working even with dead legs
- mental: to keep working even tho I really wanted to stop
Hi Carol,
I found your blog couple of months back while googling for Pose Method of running. Since then I have been following your blog regularly and you are a wonderful inspiration for me. You are doing a great job of sharing your training and experiences. Keep up the good work.
