The Existential Triathlete: I think I am fast, therefore I am

I am tapering for my upcoming race, so did just a short E2 brick (that means staying in endurance zone 2, which is an easy pace). I felt really strong on the bike today – rested legs make a big difference. There’s this long stretch of winding hilly road on my bike route that usually feels hard. Today it felt easy, and each time I looked down at my cateye computer, I was going my usual moderate pace. I found it difficult to hold back because I wanted to go harder, but I resisted so that my legs would still be fresh on race day. It was great to feel such power on the bike, and the thought entered my mind that perhaps I am strong and fast on the bike simply because I think I am.

I am going to start thinking I am strong and fast in swimming and running, too 🙂

  • What bike did you start using to train? I want to do a tri but I'm unsure about the equipment. I don't want to splurge on a 1000 bike for my first tri. What do you suggest?
